Travel Guide: What to do if you lose travel documents?
It is difficult to imagine a modern booking system without special papers, with the help of which a tourist receives the services purchased by him. It is no secret that any important document requires careful treatment and reliable storage.
But if you’re reading this article, it only means that your securities are gone. What to do in such a situation? Look at our step-by-step instructions.
Step 1: Don't panic
It sounds corny, but will extra emotions help you solve the problem of missing? The first step to solving a problem is to look at things rationally.
Step 2: Know what documents are required for your trip
The basic package of documents for the tour includes:
• Air ticket
• Health insurance/policy
• Voucher for accommodation and transfer
Passport (foreign or domestic depending on the tour)
Visa (if you are flying in the visa direction)
Step 3: Assess the scale of the problem
Before we act, we need to analyze the situation. The following questions will come to your aid:
Are all documents lost?
When did you lose the document(s)?

Step 4: Take action
Option 1. You lost your documents before the tour.
Some of the documents can be restored on their own. Today, many travel agencies send electronic versions of documents to their client. This applies to vouchers, air ticket and health insurance.
In fact, these documents are the most important for the implementation of your trip (except for your passport). It depends on them how you get there, where you will live, and what services will be provided to you. However, this practice is not implemented everywhere. If you received documents in a single copy in the agency - it is worth making a call to the manager, explaining the situation.
If you lose your passport, the problem will be a little more difficult to solve. Tourists who have purchased a tour of Russia can apply to the police department with a request to issue them a temporary identity card. VOL is valid within our country, but is issued for a limited period: 10 days if the application is filed at the place of residence; 60 days when applying at the place of actual location.
This document will help to easily board both the train and the plane. If you go abroad, a temporary certificate will be useless for you. There is no alternative to a passport today. To restore it, you must also contact the nearest police department. Further - in the FMS or MFC at the place of residence or place of stay. The reissue period is from 1 to 4 months. Obviously, in some cases, for example, if the passport is lost before the date of departure for the tour, the trip will have to be postponed.
Option 2. You lost your paperwork on tour.
Regardless of whether your destination is foreign or domestic, one general rule applies if you lose documents – contact your travel agency immediately.
Vouchers
It is possible to stay in the hotel by passport. Of course, the absence of a voucher will increase your waiting time, but the hotel must verify the authenticity of the reservation.
Health insurance
A medical policy may be needed abroad in two cases: it can be checked on the Schengen; you will become ill or injured.
Do not despair if the insurance is lost, but there is a phone number of the service company. If you call it, you can explain the situation and get information about the policy number. The service company will make a request to the insurance company to confirm your insurance.
Flight ticket
To restore it, you need to contact the office of your carrier at the airport. The data you will need: your name and date of departure. If you have a photo or photocopy of the ticket and know its number, then confirmation for a duplicate will come much faster.
Passport
First, it is necessary to record the fact of the missing document. Contact the nearest police station with an interpreter if you do not speak the local language. Write a missing passport statement. You will receive a certified copy of the application and will be given the relevant certificate. Sometimes the certificate is not issued, in this case, insistently demand it.

Verification
It's simple, you need to confirm that you are you. To do this, go to the representative office of the Russian Federation in the country in which you are located, i.e. the embassy or consulate. You can find out the location of the organization from the tourist memo or in the police station. To verify your identity, you will need:
Police certificate
Statement of missing document
Two 3x4 photos (color or black and white)
Money for consular fee ($50)
Internal passport (if any)
Any other identification document
If you do not have a single document confirming your identity, you will have to find several people who will prove that you are you. “Witnesses” can be your relatives, friends with whom you are vacationing or Russian-speaking neighbors at the hotel.
After verification, you will receive a temporary certificate that will allow you to return home. The production time is less than 30 days.
Useful advice:
• When receiving documents for the tour, make their scans and photocopies.
• Store electronic versions of documents in a separate medium.
Keep documents separate from each other – so there is less chance of losing everything at once.
When traveling abroad, bring your internal passport or photocopy.
• Always carry a tourist memo issued to you by the travel agency - it contains the necessary emergency phone numbers, addresses of embassies, consulates, etc.
• Remember that the loss of the document will have to pay a fine.
Pay close attention to your documents, because their loss can overshadow any vacation.
