Pillau - Baltiysk: rest in the westernmost city of Russia
At the Hanseatic Hotel Anchor,
Where flies land on sugar,
sideways
Destroyers sail past windows,
I sat in the company of a mug,
stare
and his conscience with reproach
Saving with a bottle of Cagore.
The music thundered at the dance,
The soldiers got on the transport.
bending cloth thighs.
The lighthouse winked at them cheerfully... >>
I. A. Brodsky, a fragment of the poem "Excerpt"
According to legend, the great Russian poet visited the baltiysk Only once, but I remember him in poetry.
On May 24, 2005, the day of the 65th anniversary of Joseph Brodsky, a white marble plaque was installed in Baltiysk on the facade of the Golden Anchor Hotel with the words: “The future Nobel Prize winner, poet Joseph Brodsky stayed in this hotel in 1963.”

The building of the hotel "Golden anchor" is now included in the list of city attractions. The hotel was built in 1909 and was called "Baltic Hotel".
After reconstruction in 1939-1941 by the German engineer Skort Frick, the hotel became known as Zum Golden Anker. Since 1956 the name of the hotel - "Golden anchor".
Near the hotel there is a memorial sign in honor of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the border troops and a memorial stone in memory of the heroes of the assault of Pillau.
Pillau - Baltiysk is a seaside port city with a unique atmosphere, and the westernmost city of our country.
In Baltiysk, warships peacefully coexist with tame white swans, and Empress Elizaveta Petrovna from the Northern Mall welcomes ships entering the port.
Sculptor G.V. Frangulyan depicted the Empress on horseback, in the dress of the Colonel of the Life Guards of the Preobrazhensky regiment.
Monument to Elizabeth Petrovna It is considered the only ceremonial female equestrian statue in the world, which was erected in honor of the victories of the Russian army during its reign.

In the opposite part of the Sea Boulevard in 1998, a monument to Peter the Great was erected in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Baltic Fleet.

Sculpture by Peter I It is located near the westernmost lighthouse of Russia - Mayak Pillau (the years of construction 1813 - 1816).
In 1945, the lighthouse served as a landmark for Soviet pilots who liberated the city.
“My little Amsterdam” – these words dedicated to Pillau were said several centuries ago. Their authorship is not yet established, they are attributed to both Peter I and King Frederick I of Prussia.
Other attractions Swedish, German and Russian stages of development of the city.
Ensemble "Fleet Headquarters Buildings Complex" - Infantry Barracks (now the headquarters of the Baltic Fleet Base) - brick buildings in the city center, including water-towerIt was previously of strategic importance for the city, and now it is a monument of history and architecture.
One of the most important city attractions is the perfectly preserved pentagonal star-shaped fortress of Pillau, a monument of military-defensive architecture.
The citadel was built in the XVII century at the direction of the Swedish king Gustav-Adolf II.
In Baltiysk, you can travel through time and space by ferry.
During the navigation period, every day by ferry you can cross the canal to the Baltic Spit, which is a resting place.
This is a unique corner of nature, which almost did not affect civilization.
Departure from the 1st berth from the embankment of Peter the Great, travel time is 10 minutes.
The Baltic Spit has traces of its recent military past.
While time and wind have not finally destroyed them, you can see the hangars of the former German airfield "Noitif" with a runway, the ruins of Fort "West", dilapidated military fortifications, forts, a German hydro harbor.
And Baltiysk is many kilometers of sandy beaches, fresh wind from the sea, endless dunes and multicolored amber, which can be collected with your own hands.
