Olympic Park
10-20 Olympic Blvd, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia
Description:
The 1956 Summer Olympics were held in Melbourne, and since then the city has been secretly considered the sports capital of Australia. The Olympics were held at a specially built sports complex - Melbourne Park, which today hosts the country's open tennis championships.
The park has preserved the atmosphere of that time, but it has also expanded significantly over 60 years of existence. In addition to tennis courts there are swimming pools and sports arenas, an arena for several tens of thousands of spectators. The main tennis arena is named after Rod Laver, who twice in a row became the owner of the Grand Slam. There are also Vodafone Arena and Margaret Court Arena, as well as 14 mini courts for visitors.
On the banks of the Yarra River is the Melbourne Park sports complex, located in the park area. It is an integral part of the Melbourne Olympic Park, which, in addition to tennis courts and sports grounds, includes the Melbourne Cricket Ground stadium for one hundred thousand spectators and the Olympic Park stadium, which at different times of the year is used as a basketball court and rink.
