The city of Ballarat, located 110 km from Melbourne, is the center of the gold-bearing region and the largest city in Australia, remote from the coast. This historic city is famous for being at the epicenter of the Gold Rush in the mid-19th century. It is also known for having the largest deposits of alluvial gold in the world. The legacy of the Golden Age is still visible in the luxurious architecture of Victorian buildings, wide streets and parks. In the morning we go to the city of Ballarat on the expressway and on the way we will stop in the beautiful Werribee Gorge. Arriving in Ballarat, we will visit some interesting places in this city. First we will visit the historic settlement of gold miners Sovereign Hill, where the architecture and atmosphere of the Golden Rush era are reproduced. In this city-museum, you can go down to two gold mines, watch a demonstration of the molding of an $80,000 bar of gold, visit working shops, schools, hotels, a bar, restaurant, theater, candle factory, farm, bank and simple houses – all as it looked in the 1850s. Do not be surprised if on the street a policeman in an old uniform with a sword comes up to you and greets you with a raised hat. Here you can also ride around the ancient city on a carriage with a coachman and even try your luck in search of gold at a river mine. Everything you find is yours. Next, we will visit the Gold Museum, where you will see a huge collection of gold bars, nuggets, jewelry, coins and learn the “golden” history of Ballarat. After lunch, we head to the Australian Animal Park in Ballarat. Here, you will see kangaroos and koalas, wombats and wallabies, snakes and crocodiles, Tasmanian devils and emus, and even be able to take a photo with a koala (for an additional fee). The crocodile show, which we will also see here, will not leave you indifferent. After a delicious cup of coffee or tea with Australian cookies, we head back to Melbourne.
