Volksgarten - People's Park
Dr-Karl-Renner Ring, Vienna, Austria
Description:
Volksgarten, or the People's Park of Vienna, is adjacent to the most famous sights of the city. This is Heroes Square and the Hofburg Palace Complex on one side. The other is the Vienna Parliament and the City Hall. On the border of the park there is a ring road and the ring. This is the historical part of Vienna.
The park is very big. Here you can admire the impeccably well-groomed lawns, huge plane trees that grow here since the beginning of the foundation of the garden, their approximate age is two hundred years.
On the site of the National Park was once an army bastion. During the war with Napoleon in the early XIX century, the military fortification was destroyed, and no one took the initiative in restoring the structures. It was decided to set up a park on the territory. At first, it was a place of rest for wealthy citizens. At that time, the imperial family called the aristocracy “the people”, hence the People’s Park.
