Donau Auen National Park
Description:
Donau Auen National Park has long been a closed area for ordinary people. Emperors and noblemen spent time here hunting the beast. In the XVIII century, the lands of the future park were transferred by Empress Maria Theresa to the municipality of the city, making them available to the public. In the XX century, various construction works began to be carried out on the Danube, which negatively affected the fauna and flora. Since 1997, the park has been declared a protected area with the support of UNESCO.
1996 is officially the year of the opening of the Donau Auen National Park. The center is Orth Castle. It is recommended to start a trip to the National Park. Here you can get acquainted with all the representatives of wildlife living on the territory. Excursions can be carried out by cycling, walking and even water.
The area of the Donau Auen National Park in Austria covers an area of about 93 square kilometers. The whole territory, like a narrow ribbon, stretches along the Danube River.
