Vienna

Prater Park

Leopoldstadt, 1020 Wien, Austria

Description:

On the left bank of the Danube, sandwiched between the river and the canal, is Prater Park. Once this territory was a hunting grounds of the imperial house, in 1766, at the request of Emperor Joseph II, a public park was set up here. There were carousels, coffee shops, shops with fresh bread and gingerbread, street artists and circus artists, puppet theater. In 1873, the World Exhibition was held here, on the basis of which the Vienna Fair later appeared. During World War II, almost half of the park was destroyed, so a large-scale reconstruction was carried out in 1945. You can plunge into the history of the park and look at everything with your own eyes by visiting the Prater Museum in the building of the planetarium.

The park itself is divided into two zones - "green" (Gruner Prater) and the Prater itself (Wurstelprater), in which there are attractions. There is a children's railway in the park, there is a huge Ferris wheel. There are several cafes in the park.
