Zoo in Linz
Hietzing-West, 1130 Wien, Austria
Description:
Linerne Tiergarten, a zoo in Linz, is located on an area of 24.5 square kilometers in the southwestern 13th district of Vienna in the nature reserve. 80% of the reserve is forested. The history of the establishment of the zoo in Linz dates back to the reign of Ferdinand I, whose hunting grounds were located here. Since 1919, the zoo has been open for public visits. Between 1940 and 1955 the garden was closed. Until 1973, entrance to the zoo was paid, then the fee was canceled.
Today, it is home to 800 of the 1,000 wild boars, 200 of the 250 deer, about 800 mouflon and 80 deer. The reserve is open from March to early November. Some parts of it are open all year round. On the territory of the zoo there is a museum in the Hermesvilla Castle building, which exhibits a collection of art objects and often hosts various exhibitions. In the depths of the park are cozy cafes Hirschgstemm and Rohrhaus, where you can have a snack. And at the highest point of the reserve there is an observation tower.
