Neuer Markt with the Donner Fountain

Center of Neuer Markt, Vienna, Austria

Description:

Neuer Markt mit Donner-Brunnen in Vienna is translated into Russian as Neuer Markt Square with the Donner Fountain. The place is ancient, information about it can be found in historical sources of the early XIII century. There was active market trading and various tournaments were held here.

You will be interested to see here the church of the Capuchins, houses of the XVIII century and a large Baroque fountain. It was built by Georg Raphael Donner, a sculptor whose name the fountain now bears.

The sculpture is made on a mythological theme. In the center of the composition is the figure of Providence. Nearby are other mythological figures who personify the rivers Traun, Ibs, Enns and Morava. On such an unusual creative decision Donner pushed the art collection of Prince Liechtenstein. He studied sculptural craft in Italy and in Vienna he embodied his ideas.
