Monument to Emperor Joseph II

Austria, Vienna, center of Josefsplatz Square

Description:

Surrounded by majestic and beautiful buildings, a monument to Emperor Joseph II is erected on Josefsplatz Square. It was built in 1807 on the initiative of another Austrian emperor, his nephew, Franz II. And it's no accident! After all, Emperor Joseph II was one of the main reformers of Austria, who carried out a number of changes in the domestic policy of the country.

Currently, tourists can see a massive pedestal on which the figure of the emperor is mounted on a horse. His dress resembles the Roman era. The emperor extends his right hand symbolically emphasizing his importance as a certain imperial gesture. Art connoisseurs can point out that this monument resembles the classic equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius in Rome.

Bronze reliefs say that Emperor Joseph II actively developed trade, economic and agricultural spheres. In addition, at the corners of the pedestal there are low columns with 4 medallions on each, revealing key events in the life of the ruler.
