Vienna

Memorial to Holocaust Victims

Morzinplatz, Vienna, Austria

Description:

Austrians remember and honor past events. During World War II, millions of people were killed. But some died not through their own fault, but as a result of the brutal atrocities of the Nazis. The list includes 130,000 Austrian Jews who went missing in the Gestapo. This is where the Holocaust Memorial is dedicated. The author of the monument is the English architect Rachel Whitered.

The monument is presented in the form of a construction of iron and concrete with a height of 3.8 meters. It looks like a ruined library. On the walls of the memorial are carved the names of settlements where Austrians once died because of German oppression. In front of the stove are memorable words about all the victims. It is noteworthy that you will not find the word “Jew” anywhere in the fully written memorial. The only thing that reminds of them is a six-pointed star at the top of the monument.
