Gerhard Hanappi Stadium was built in the late 70s of the last century, at that time it was called the Western Stadium. Together with a new architectural project, the author of which was an outstanding football player of the 50s Gerhard Hannapi, the stadium was given a new name.
The legendary Viennese football club Rapid plays here. Football fans often refer to the arena as “Saint Hannapi” and even coined their slogan “Our religion is Rapid.” For eight seasons Gerhard Hanappi hosted the final matches of the Austrian Cup.
The capacity of the sports arena is 18,442 fans. In the near future, it is planned to expand the territory of the stadium with an increase in capacity to 25 thousand visitors. Currently, this place is very popular, various cultural events and competitions are held here.
