Imperial Furniture Museum

7 Andreasgasse, Vienna, Austria

About the company:

The Vienna Imperial Furniture Museum (Hofmobiliendepot) is a unique collection of 165,000 pieces of furniture. Originally a Habsburg furniture store, it now displays exhibits collected over 300 years. The exposition presents various furnishings of the imperial family: a real royal throne, tables, chairs, armchairs, sofas, beds, dressers, even spitters and closets. In their manufacture, elite types of wood, bronze for inlay, expensive silk fabrics for upholstery, etc. were used.

The palace interior is filled with the composition of antique furniture of various styles - Biedermeier, Rococo, Empire, Viennese historicism and modern. Masterpieces of famous Austrian furniture firms such as the Thonet Brothers, a handmade natural wood master class of famous Viennese creators, were created for the luxury of the aristocracy.

The museum (Hofmobiliendepot) shows the history of bourgeois life in Vienna in the era of kings, counts with palace intrigues, balls and secular parties. Currently, the halls also host temporary exhibitions of contemporary Austrian and foreign furniture designers.
