Folklore Museum

Laudongasse 15-19, 1080 Wien, Austria

About the company:

The Austrian Folklore Museum is located in Vienna. Founded in 1985, it was originally housed in the former stock exchange, but in 1917 all exhibits were moved to the Schönborn Summer Palace. But even there he was not long. After 1920, the Folklore Museum moved into close proximity to the Ethnographic Museum, where it is still located. Much of the museum is dedicated to the traditional life of the Alpine regions located on the banks of the Danube.

All exhibits somehow affect everyday life in the period from the XVII to the XIX century. Although some items may seem very unusual. Numerous photos and layouts show different types of houses, farms and interiors. A separate room is dedicated to national costumes. In addition, the museum houses one of the largest collections of ancient musical instruments, folk art objects from the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Several rooms are devoted exclusively to religious topics. In one of them you can see how marriage ceremonies were observed and carried out in the Middle Ages and in the heyday of the Baroque era.
