Tram Museum

Erdbergstra ß e 109, 1030 Wien, osterreich

About the company:

The tram museum, located in Vienna, Austria, opened in 1966. It occupies the former Erdberg carriage yard, designed by architect Theophil von Hansen, and consists of five parts. In the main hall there is an exposition dedicated to the history of trams, in separate halls there are military and special trams, two more halls are designed for various thematic exhibitions.

On an area of more than 7000 square meters, including a block next to the museum, a collection of 152 trams from around the world is collected. Among them is the first tram in the world, created in 1868, which harnessed horses, steam engines of the late XIX century, electric trams of the early XX century and modern trams that represent the tram park of the city. The most interesting exhibits are a two-cab tram and a tram with rubber wheels that allow you to go on a normal road.

During the Second World War, the museum was completely destroyed, but most of the exhibits were saved by hiding in the basements where wine was previously stored. In addition to exploring the expositions and exhibits, the museum offers city tours on one of the trams or renting trams for any celebration.
