Vienna Museum of Modern Art
About the company:
The creation of the Museum of Modern Art in Vienna in the 60s of the 20th century was entrusted to the young art historian Werner Hofmann. Hofman proposed the original concept of the museum, based on the fact that he perceived art as a complex concept. Therefore, the museum has become not only an exhibition platform, but also an experimental zone for related areas – design, music and cinema. The museum changed rooms several times. The last building to house the Museum of Modern Art today is the former Imperial Stables in the heart of Vienna. The museum building is a rectangular block of gray basaltic lava with a curved roof. It attracts the attention of MUMOK and its dark color.
The homogeneous smooth surface of the external walls “works” with the external exhibition space, images can be projected on them or art objects can be placed. The interiors of the museum are white, easily transformed halls. Today, the museum contains about 9,000 works: paintings, sculptures, installations, drawings, graphics, photographs, videos, films, architectural models and furniture. Popular among visitors are the works of Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Pablo Picasso, Yoko Ono, Gunter Brus and Gerhard Richter and many others.
