Vienna Meidling Station
Description:
Vienna-Maidling station is currently replacing Vienna's North Station, which is undergoing a major renovation and will open in 2014. The South Station is also involved in the “substitution”, but the main load falls on Vienna-Midling.
The Vienna-Midling station was opened in 1860. First of all, it was used for the needs of freight trains, but later began to perform the function of passenger transportation.
During the civil war of 1934, the station was almost captured by the rebels, but thanks to the competent actions of police officer Joseph Shiel, the station was recaptured. However, for its subsequent retention had to use the armed forces and armored train.
In 2009, the Vienna-Maidling railway station was reconstructed: its platforms were built from scratch, and the infrastructure began to comply with all European standards.
