Dwarf garden
Mirabellplatz 4, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
Description:
The Dwarf Garden, known for its funny sculptures of dwarves, is located in Mirabelgarden Park, in Salzburg, and is considered the oldest garden in all of Europe. The first 28 dwarfs were placed in the park in the early seventeenth century, and to be more precise, in 1715. In appearance, the figures were a little strange and even terrible, which did not like Ludwig the First of Bavarian, and at his order they were sold out. To date, the dwarfs managed to return home, but not in full strength, only 15. All of them continue to fulfill their purpose – to talk about the activities of local residents.
The sculptures of dwarfs are relatively small, sometimes their growth reaches 70 centimeters. They are made of marble and are now in a somewhat neglected, blackened state. The garden is located compactly, and the full picture is complemented by decorative shrubs. Among the little laborers you can recognize a brewer, merchant, scientist, carpenter, hunter and others. There is also the only female that symbolizes gardening.
Today, Mirabelgarden Park is popular among tourists who are not averse to consider and take pictures not only with interesting garden dwarfs, but also with beautiful flowers, bushes, fountains and just against the backdrop of charming nature.
