Church of Notre Dame du Sablon

Rue de la R gence 3B, Brussels

Description:

The Church of Notre Dame du Sablon is an ancient Catholic church built in the Middle Ages. This is a typical example of the late Gothic style.

Near the entrance to the temple and along its wall, sculptures of saints are displayed on the pedestal. Here is the revered statue of St. Hubert. In the Middle Ages it was stolen from Brussels and transported to Antwerp, but later it was solemnly returned to its original place.

The church is decorated in the style of European Gothic. Above the main entrance – a Gothic portal decorated with small carved arch-archivolts – a huge window-outlet is laid. Bright patterns, flames and exquisite support poles that frame the main building, strengthening its roof, are characteristic of late French Gothic, known for its expression as "flammable Gothic".

Especially famous is the interior decoration of the temple, in particular, the huge stained glass windows that decorate the windows. Inside, the walls of the temple are painted with the coats of arms of the most prominent families of Brussels.
