Stokele Palace

Stoclet Palace, Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Belgium

Description:

Stokle Palace, located in the Belgian capital, Brussels, attracts tourists with its architecture. It was built in the early XX century for the banker Adolf Stokele on the border of two styles: modern and modernism.

Architect Josef Hofman created a multi-level building with a rectangular tower and a dome in the form of a hemispheric gray brick with strictly geometric shapes, wishing to embody the concept of a “total work of art”, in which all art forms would form a single whole.

The interior and exterior decoration, the garden around the mansion are designed in a single style. The tower is decorated with sculptures by Franz Metzner, exquisite interiors are decorated with marble mosaic panels with precious stones. Inscribed in 2009 in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the palace can only be viewed from the street, as it is still privately owned by the Stokle family.
