Petit Sablon Garden
Place du Petit Sablon near rue de la R gence, Brussels, Belgium
Description:
In the 12th century, the area now occupied by the lovely Petit Sablon Garden was outside the city. Its name was given to specific local soils. At the end of the 19th century, the borders of Brussels significantly expanded and a park was built here.
In the traditions of that time, the garden has a regular symmetrical layout, all its objects are deeply symbolic: both sheared hedges, and Gothic columns of fences, and 48 statues that are usually associated with this corner of the city. The center of the garden is decorated with a fountain with a monument to the executed rebels - Count Egmont and Orne.
In this area of the city are concentrated many interesting cultural sites, providing good views and necessary entertainment. But in general, Petit Sablon keeps a secluded, subdued atmosphere, which makes the picturesque garden a convenient place to relax from the bustle of the city.
