Monument to Madame Hat

Belgium, Boissel, corner of Rue du Midi and Rue des Moineaux

Description:

The monument to Madame Chapeau, or to be exact Madame Chapeau, was erected in Brussels at the intersection of two Rue des Moineaux and Rue du Midi streets in 2000. Sculptor Tom Frantzen depicted in bronze an old woman who counts small things in her purse. It is located in the area of the city, infamous for the tricks of pickpockets.

Madame Chapo is a character from the 1938 comedy Bossemans en Coppenolle, written by Joris d’Hanswijk and Paul Van Stalle. They describe what is happening in this area of the city. By the way, the role of this grandmother in the play was performed by a man.
