Monument "The Joke on a Policeman"

Rue de l'Ecole 76, 1080 Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Bruxelles, Belgium

Description:

Such a funny sculpture is called De Vaartkapoen (De Vaartkapoen), which means “canal”, “kapoen” – “brash”.

The monument was erected in 1985 on one of the streets of Brussels in the district of Molenbik.

The plot is great reminiscent of a scene from a comic book: from a sewer hatch, like a devil from a snuffbox, a young joker suddenly pops out and knocks a policeman down, grabbing the guardian of order by the leg. The author of the masterpiece is a cheerful and talented Belgian sculptor Tom Franzen.

The sculpture, commissioned by the city committee, is made in the genre of "zwanze", characteristic of Brussels, the distinctive properties of which are humor and irony.
