Grand Place Square

4280 Hannut, Belgium

Description:

The Grand Place Square is included in the UNESCO Heritage List, and all the buildings consisting of the architectural complex are an echo of the XVII century.

It is worth noting that despite its centuries-old history, the square is perfectly preserved, and all the buildings look well-groomed, and only by the architectural style of the Baroque can we say that they are more than a hundred years old. Meanwhile, few people remember the historical fact, when the French soldiers destroyed the whole city and only the Grand Place stood, everything else was destroyed thanks to days of shelling of the French legion.

There is also a Gothic building of the town hall, which dates back to the XV century. Every day this historical monument-building is visited by many tourists, whose eyes appear gilded mirrors of those times and rich decoration of buildings.

Another no less important attraction of the square is the Bread House. And despite the fact that many call this building the house of the king, most still believe that it is the Bread House. Although, of course, today in this building is not stored bakery products, unlike the times of XIII.

And in a couple of months, another attraction will appear on the square, which is created by master florists every two years, and which millions of tourists come to see. Those who were in Brussels in mid-August, no doubt already guessed that we are talking about a flower carpet, consisting of a million begonias.

Thanks to all its attractions, the Grand Place square rightfully bears the name of the most beautiful and sophisticated square in Europe, and who would have thought that before this place was an ordinary swamp.
