Grand Place Square

Show me on the map

Description:

The Grand Place, located in the heart of Brussels, is the most beautiful square in Europe. It is the only medieval square in Europe whose architectural ensemble has been carefully planned.

According to legend, Louis XIV, having arrived once in Brussels and envious of its beauty, ordered to throw the city with burning land mines. But the rich merchants of Belgium, sparing no expense, rebuilt a new, more beautiful square, the construction of which began in 1402. The surrounding buildings are masterpieces of world architecture.

Arriving here, you can see the House of the painter, the tailor’s house, the butcher’s house, the Boatman’s house and, of course, the most magnificent buildings – the Royal Palace, which now houses the Museum of the city, and the City Hall.
