Anthony Wirtz Museum
Rue Vautier 62, Vautierstraat 62, Ixelles, near Luxembourg Railway Station, Brussels, Belgium
About the company:
Antoine Joseph Wirtz was a 19th century Belgian painter and sculptor. The Royal Museum of Fine Arts in Belgium is housed in a small building near the European Parliament complex. This is the former studio of the artist, and almost all his works are collected here - 220 paintings, sculptures, sketches. Wirtz is little known, but his work, while controversial and ambiguous, is remarkable in its own way. The artist tried to compete with Rubens, and his paintings, often huge, fully reflect the strength of his ambitions.
The museum is not very popular, but it manages to preserve the atmosphere of the romantic Middle Ages. And visitors have the pleasure of coming face to face with the frenzied energy and depth of thought of Wirtz, an artist who deserves to be known.
