People's Warners Day
Description:
Thanks to their efforts, the theater appeared in Bulgaria, modern literary genres began to develop, and scientific research was developed. Church leaders in 1860 managed to achieve the recognition of a separate Bulgarian exarchy. The affairs of ascetics-waiters are alive to this day: it is a dense network of folk readers (district houses of culture), and composed by them songs and poems that honor the national memory.
For the first time, the holiday began to be celebrated in Plovdiv in 1909, and from 1921 to 1945, the Day of People's Wakemakers was an official state holiday. In the modern history of Bulgaria, the holiday was revived again in 1992 on the idea of the Bulgarian historian and public figure Peter Konstantinov.
The Day of People’s Waking-Ups is a non-present day for all educational institutions of the country. Usually on this day, solemn meetings and evenings dedicated to the memory of the figures of the Bulgarian Renaissance are held, amateur groups perform concerts and recitals in reading rooms. Flowers are laid to the monuments of ascetics-waiters.
