Day of Vasil Levski
Description:
February 19 in Bulgaria celebrates the Day of Vasil Levsky, ardent Bulgarian revolutionary, ideologist and organizer of the liberation struggle of the Bulgarian people against the Ottoman invaders.
On this day in 1873 in Sofia, Levski, sentenced to death by a Turkish court, was hanged. His short life, filled with danger and tension, can serve as an example. Of course, for all Bulgarians, he is such an example.
On this day, a river of people with flowers and wreaths flows to his monument in the center of Sofia, erected on the frontal place. At the monument, songs of the 19th century are heard, speeches are spoken, poems are recited.
