Covered bridge

osmsk street, 5500 Lovech, Bulgaria

Description:

The covered bridge is a symbol of the Bulgarian city of Lovech. The Covered Bridge was built by the aspiring architect Coglio Ficheto in 1876 at the request of the city's residents, after the old bridge was destroyed by flooding. Almost all residents of the city participated in the construction of the “covered bridge with trade shops” – the poor worked on construction, and the rich financed the work.

The bridge had stone piles, but it was made of wood, which the architect selected for construction personally.

In 1925, this beautiful building burned down in a fire. Restoration of the bridge was completed in 1931. It became completely stone, but its appearance tried to preserve as much as it was built by Ficheto.

Currently, the length of the building is 106 meters, it has 14 shops. The covered bridge is one of the most visited attractions of Lovech.
