danube

Description:

The Danube River is the second largest river in Europe. Its length is 2850 kilometers, and the area of the basin reaches 817 square kilometers.

The river has more than 300 tributaries, 34 of which are navigable. In the 5th century BC, the ancient Greek traveler and geographer Herodotus explored the Danube. Since ancient times, the river has played an important role. It was one of the main trade routes and attracted the attention of many conquerors.

Currently, the Danube River has been given a special international status, because for many European countries in certain areas the river serves as their natural border, including in Bulgaria - the Danube marks the northern border with Romania. There are 8 towns and 40 Bulgarian islands on the Danube coast, many of which are attractive for tourists.
