Sheriff Khalil Pasha Mosque Tombul

Georgi Rakovski Str., Shumen, Bulgaria

Description:

Sheriff Khalil Pasha is a Bulgarian mosque. But it is better known as Tombul, that is, the mosque located in Shumen. It is worth noting that this is the largest mosque in Bulgaria.

The majesty of its huge structure and the beauty of the correct forms are fascinating. It was built in 1740-1744 and from the very beginning was located in northeastern Bulgaria. At that time it was the center of the Ottoman Empire. But due to the fact that the modern country somewhat shifted the center, its location is indicated as the northeast of the country.

The name of the mosque comes from the shape of its dome. It is located at a height of twenty meters from the ground. The complex itself has the main building - a prayer hall, a boarding house and a courtyard. There is a beautiful arch belonging to the main building of the mosque.

The interior of Tombul Mosque is painted with geometric figures. There are many phrases written in Arabic.

As in any other mosque, there are certain phrases from the Koran on the walls of the Bulgarian mosque that every Muslim knows.
