Russian Church of St. Nicholas in Sofia
Sophia, bull. King Liberation 3, Bulgaria
Description:
In the center of Sofia, at the crossroads of G.S. Rakovskiy Street and Tsar Liberator Boulevard, the Russian Church of St. Nicholas is located. It is one of the most impressive buildings in the capital.
The Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1912 under the direction of the architect Preobrazhensky by order of Russian emigrants in Bulgaria. The church is made in pseudo-Russian style with five domes-"onions". The interior is decorated with frescoes, including copies of frescoes of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra.
Nowadays, the temple is a columnless four with adjacent side and altar rooms. Above the entrance is the image of St. Nicholas. By the way, this is the only Russian church in Sofia, although its beauty is able to eclipse many Bulgarian ones.
