Sofia Museum of Contemporary Art

The Sofia Arsenal Museum for Contemporary Art is relatively recent. It was opened on 17 June 2011. This is the first museum of this kind in Bulgaria.

The initiators of the creation were members of the governments of Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein within the framework of the European Union program for the preservation of cultural heritage of Bulgaria.

The museum itself is housed in the Sofia Arsenal building. It was built in the early XX century, which was reconstructed in the autumn of 2010.

Currently, the exhibits are exhibited on the first floor, but over time an additional floor will be built and an extension will be built, which will serve as exhibition halls for temporary exhibitions. As a result of such redevelopment, the usable area will increase by 1000 square meters. Also near the building of the Sofia Arsenal is a square.
