Trojan monastery
Description:
The Trojan Monastery of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is located a few kilometers from the city of Troyan, near the Cherni Osym River. The monastery is the third largest functioning Orthodox stavropegial male monastery of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
The monastery has an ancient and respected history. Founded in the early 17th century by the abbot Kallistrat, the monastery became the owner of the miraculous icon “The Most Holy Mother of God the Trinity”, which was brought by unknown monks who visited Athos. The icon has survived to our time and is one of the revered shrines of the monastery.
The buildings of the monastery were repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. By the early nineteenth century, the church and several residential buildings had taken on a final appearance that we can still admire today. Inside the temple, wall paintings made in blue-purple tones and a carved elegant iconostasis deserve special attention. Very impressive looks and bell tower with a height of five floors.
Currently, the monastery is one of one hundred national tourist sites.
