Kaliakra Fortress
Description:
Kaliakra fortress is located on one of the picturesque and rocky capes of Bulgaria. This structure of the XIV century played an important role in the battle of 1791 between the Turkish and Russian fleets.
This battle was able to determine the success of Russian soldiers in the war. The lands on which the fortress was founded passed into the possession of the Principality of Karvuna. Gradually, Kaliakra became upset and strengthened, becoming larger and more majestic.
The fortress was considered both a fortification and a real city in the city, in which, in addition to the residence of Karvun, there were state institutions, the main church and the mint. In the XIX-XX centuries, Kaliakra was not used, and modern buildings were founded in the nearest territory - wind stations and a lighthouse.
Currently, the Kaliakra fortress and the cape are part of the reserve, which is surrounded by magnificent nature, about which legends make up.
For everyone, the territory of the famous building is open to visitors daily from 10:00 to 19:00.
