Matriz Manaus Church
Sete de Setembro, 548-620 – Centro, Manaus – AM, 69005-140, Brazil
Description:
Matriz Manaus Church is one of the main attractions of the city, located in the central part of Manaus.
The history of the building, built in the neoclassical style, dates back to 1695, when a parish for citizens was erected on this site. Over the next centuries, the building was rebuilt several times and housed various religious institutions - from the cathedral to the church.
As part of today’s church you can see a chapel, a staircase with five steps, pediments above the front door, windows and two bell towers. In 1927, the municipality installed a clock on the facade of the church, and in the 1970s, part of the exterior cladding was replaced - marble slabs were installed.
