Manaus

Eduardo Gomes Airport

Description:

The airport of Manaus named after Eduardo Gomes (in honor of the Brazilian politician and military air marshal) has international status. It replaced Manaus’ first airport, Ponta Pelada Airport (now the Manaus Air Force Viation Base and performs exclusively military operations).

The airport opened on March 31, 1976 and was by then the most modern Brazilian airport. Currently, there are two passenger terminals: the first one handles domestic and international flights, and the second one handles regional flights and civil aviation.

The airport also has three cargo terminals (the last one was opened in 2004), with a total area of 49,000 m2 - they can handle up to 12,000 tons of cargo per month.

Ten airlines cooperate with the airport, five of them are international.
