Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People
Largo do Pelourinho S/n, Pelourinho, Salvador, Brazil
Description:
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People is a unique Catholic church in El Salvador, recognized as a valuable historical and architectural monument of the XVIII century. The church is considered one of the most important city attractions and is popular among foreign tourists.
The Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People was built almost a hundred years - from 1704 to 1796. The building was built by black slaves who built the temple for their own needs. In El Salvador, black people were not allowed to enter the church, so underprivileged slaves had to build their own temple. The work was carried out only at night, when the slaves had free time.
From the outside, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary of Black People looks very pretty: for the sky-blue coloring of the facade, it is sometimes called "blue church" - "blue church". Inside the temple, you can admire the old handmade altar, as well as see very unusual statues of black saints.
