Lake Dique de Tororo
Av. Vasco da Gama, El Salvador, Bahia, Brazil
Description:
Dique de Tororo is a small artificial lake located in the central part of the Brazilian city of Salvador, Bahia. The lake is considered a popular city landmark and is very loved by tourists.
Lake Dique de Tororo dates back to colonial times, when Salvadorans built the first artisanal dam. In the eighteenth century, this reservoir served as an important source of drinking water, but today its economic importance is minimal. Around the lake there is a pretty park, in which tourists and citizens like to walk, and near the coast there is a playground and a small stage for open-air concerts. In the center of the lake, a fountain beats directly from the water, around which several pretty sculptures created by Brazilian artist Tati Moreno are installed in a circle. The lake also attracts lovers of rowing and fishing.
Today, Lake Dique de Tororo is an important part of El Salvador’s historical heritage. And its surroundings are a great place for picnics and hiking.
