Andradas Fortress
Rua Horá cio Guedes Barreiros s/nº - Praia Munduba, Guaruzha, Brazil
Description:
The fortress of Andradas in Guaruzha was originally called Fort Munduba. This is one of the last defensive systems built in Brazil and designed to ensure the inaccessibility of the coastal strip of the country. Work on the construction of the fortress dates back to 1938, led by Lieutenant Colonel John Luis Monteiro. The official opening of the fort is timed to 1942. The name of the fortress commemorates the brothers de Andrade e Silva, who were important political figures during the First Empire.
After World War II, the fort occupied a military garrison. And now there is a museum that opened in 1994.
Andradas Fortress is considered one of the main attractions of Guaruge. As if mounted in a rock, whitening impregnable walls and permeated with mazes of passages and rooms, it looks impressive. The fortress rises about 300 meters above sea level, there are several heavy guns from the war, and from here there are magnificent views of the islands, beaches and other surroundings.
