Description:
Ibirapuera Park is one of the city parks of São Paulo, which is willingly visited by tourists and citizens.
The name of the park, translated from the language of the Tupi Indians, means “rotten tree”, since the park is now divided into swampy areas, where in the era of colonization there were Indian settlements.
The park was opened in 1954 and is dedicated to the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city of São Paulo. Many of the buildings in the park were designed by renowned architect Oscar Niameyer.
There are many attractions in the park. In the northern part of the park there is a large granite monument to the Portuguese colonizers who founded the first settlements in Brazil. On the basis of the monument, a map is drawn, where the research areas of each colonizer are marked.
The park has areas for recreation, badminton games, picnics, bicycle paths are laid, there are 3 artificial reservoirs where many waterfowl live. There is also a planetarium and several museums in the park.
