Banderas Monument

Praca Gen. Estilac Leal, 145-239 - Moema, Sã o Paulo, 04001-030, Brazil

Description:

The Banderas Monument is a monument to São Paulo designed by sculptor Victor Bresheret during the Brazilian Empire. It is located in front of the palace on July 9, in the park of Ibirapuera.

Construction of the monument began in 1921, and its opening took place in 1954.

This granite sculptural complex is 50 meters long and 16 meters high, built in honor of the foundation of the city. The monument is dedicated to the actions of gold prospectors and adventurers-bandeirants, invaders who enslaved many peoples of the country, going in search of the treasures of the Brazilian land in the first years after its discovery.

On the pedestal are carved inscriptions, and on its front side is a map of Brazil showing the routes taken by gold prospectors.
