Gato Falls
Castelhanos, Ilhabela, Sao Sebastiao Island
Description:
Gato Falls is located on the ocean coast of the Gulf of Castellanos. The height of the waterfall reaches 80 meters, which makes it one of the main attractions of the state of São Paulo.
The waterfall is located on the island of San Sebastian, near the city of Illabel. It is so large that it is visible even to tourists arriving from the continent - its waters shine in the sun through the dense greenery of the tropical jungle. The main part of the stream breaks down through a sheer seventy-meter rock, and then, reaching the second stream, splits into several streams and smaller streams, which also tend down, forming smaller waterfalls.
At the bottom of the waterfall in the rock for millions of years formed karst funnels filled with the purest water, which brings the waterfall Gato. These underwater caves have become a place of attraction for dozens of divers. In addition, in small ponds can swim tourists tired after a long road to the waterfall.
To get to the waterfall, you need to walk along the forest road, which begins at the beach of Gato on the shore of the Gulf of Castellanos. The journey will take about 40 minutes, and a forest road through the jungle will lead travelers to one of Brazil’s most beautiful natural treasures.
