Museum of Black Culture

são Paulo, Brazil

About the company:

The Museum of Black Culture is a slave market of the past. The building, built in the colonial style, has a courtyard.

In 1888, the site of the museum was a real slave market. There is even a copy of the “shameful” pillar on which the guilty slaves were punished. In 1975, a museum was created on the site of the market, which contains collections of items donated by Afro-Brazilian cultural centers. There are hand mills of that time, and engravings depicting the life of blacks.
