The airport opened in April 1939.
In 1996, the airport was significantly renovated. After a large-scale reconstruction, the runway of the airport was expanded for the second time (the first time work on the expansion of the strip was carried out a year after the opening of the airport) - from 1800 to 2100 meters. A new platform was also built here.
The airport serves both local and international destinations.
The last modernization of the airport was carried out in 2010 - during this period the terminal building was expanded.
