Changlimitang Stadium
Description:
Changlmitang is a multifunctional stadium located in the resort town of Thimphu, Bhutan. It currently serves as the National Stadium and is mainly used for large-scale archery and football competitions. Its total capacity is 25,000 spectators.
In June 2002, the stadium became the venue for a symbolic match in which the Montserrat national team was beaten by Bhutan 4-0. Soon, a documentary was made about this match called The Other Final. Changlmitang also gained popularity with Bhutan’s first outdoor theater production, A Tale of Two Cities, held here in 2005.
In 2006, a major reconstruction of the stadium was carried out, the cost of which amounted to about 223 million ngultrums. As a result, its capacity of Changlmitang Stadium increased from 10,000 to 25,000 seats. Currently, it is one of the popular attractions of the city, where the vast majority of celebrations and competitions are held.
