Český Krumlov

Vyzborod monastery

Czech Republic, South Bohemian Territory, Česki-Krumlov District, Visci-Broad

Description:

Vysebrodsky Monastery is located in the Czech Republic, on the territory of the South Czech Territory. The monastery was named after the town of Vishchi Brod, which is located in the district of Chesky Krumlov.

The monastery dates back to 1259, when the Capitol of the Cisterian Abbey in Sito blessed the construction of a new monastery.

Founded the monastery Vok I Rosenberg, ten generations of descendants of which found their rest in its walls. During the CSSR, military barracks were located in the monastery, and monks were forced to move to another abbey.

Being, for many centuries, a major Catholic center of the southern part of the Czech Republic, now the Vysebrod monastery is again returned to the church. The complex of buildings of the monastery is included in the list of national cultural monuments of the Czech Republic. A rich monastery library has survived to this day, containing tens of thousands of printed and handwritten books.
