Hishe Castle

Description:

Hishe is an ancient place, whose history begins in the XII century. The first mention of the local fortress dates back to 1169. But the stronghold had to have arisen even earlier, as it was from there that Odolen, the son of Strzez, came, who accompanied King Vladislav on his campaign against Milan in 1158. It is this man who is considered the founder of the well-known genus Petipeski from Hish.

On the site of the fortress now stands the castle, which arose as a result of the neo-Gothic reconstruction of the Renaissance residence. The author of this last restructuring in the second half of the nineteenth century was the owner of Lazhansky.

It was in this family that the most famous Czech writer Karel Čapek briefly worked as a tutor. He lived here in 1917, and later the description of the castle appeared in his work “Cracatite”.

The castle was returned in the course of restitution and has been almost completely renovated. The owner today, Mr. Vladimir Lazhansky, opened to the public stylish castle interiors, castle basements, a medieval tower, a baroque well and an exhibition dedicated to Karel Čapek.

The castle complex also includes a brewery built in 1839-1841. But the brewing business in Hisch dates back to 1580. In 2007, after 74 years, the production of quality castle beer Prokop was restored. In the historical interiors of the brewery, visitors are waiting for a stylish restaurant and a traditional beer store.
