Cafe Elephant

Cafe "Elephant" is one of the oldest and most iconic cafes in the city, founded in the 18th century.

Initially, there was a boarding house called “At the Golden Elephant”, next to the house called “Golden Pheasant”. In 1875, both these buildings were demolished, and in their place was built Café Elephant. On the second floor of the building, a gilded figure of an elephant was installed, which became the hallmark of the established institution.

The cafe is famous not only for its elephant, but also for its famous guests, including Goethe himself, Beethoven and even Emperor Franz I and his wife.

The last reconstruction of the interior was carried out recently.
