Monument to Tomas Garik Massarik
massarica Street, Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic
Description:
High rank Massaric received in 1918. But the idea of creating a liberal democracy caught fire long before that moment. The people called him “father” and created a cult of “President-liberator”. In fact, he managed to implement his plan - the country became a republic. But not everyone appreciated it and waited for it to stumble. Tomasz was dismissed for anti-German remarks after 17 years of successful political career. He could not withstand such a blow and died two years later in his country house, and a year later the republic fell.
His fellow countrymen remembered him as much as they could. In honor of him, coins of various denominations were issued, a museum was opened and several monuments were erected. One of them is installed in Karlovy Vary on Massarika Street. The bronze figure is very similar to the Russian revolutionary V.I. Lenin. Many tourists confuse him with the first president of Czechoslovakia. In the people about this even go vulgar jokes.
